Ethiopia has a total population of 105 million. Out of those, only 7% of the population have access to safely managed water systems and basic sanitation and only 41% have access to safe drinking water (WSSCC, n.d.). With those statistics, it is clear that this is an issue of concern for the country of Ethiopia. Because it is an issue of great concern, the country has implemented over 40 programs around the country which “aim to provide universal access to essential health care services for the country’s rural population” (WSSCC, n.d.). These programs help improve the sanitation and hygiene in schools, clinics, and other public spaces. Besides the local movements to improve the countries situation, Ethiopia also receives help from global partners. They have received $5,345, 341 in funds, all which have gone to create and implement programs in communities, which would increase and promote proper hygiene and sanitation (WSSCC, n.d.).
